Has Your Email Account been Hacked?

Your email account contains much of your private information. If this vital info gets into the hands of email hackers they can do a lot of harm to you and all your email contacts.

Email hacking is becoming a common problem of web users. As more people have become dependent on the internet for almost everything they need, a vast amount of sensitive information is now within reach of unscrupulous individuals known as hackers.

Cybertopcops.com defines a hacker as “someone who gains unauthorized access to a computer system.” Most hackers just like the thrill of breaking through a computer security system, but there are others who may not be as harmless. Some hack into email accounts and use all the sensitive information that they can access, for own their benefit.

How can you tell if your email was hacked?

  • You can’t log into your email account.
  • Your sent folder contains messages that you never sent.
  • Your email contacts inform you that they have been receiving spam messages from your account.

What can you do if your email has been hacked?

  1. Change your password.
If you learn that your email has been hacked, change your password immediately. Choose one that won’t be guessed easily.
  2. Check all your other accounts: email, social networks, blogs, etc.
Many people use one password for all their accounts because it’s easier to remember. While this may be more convenient, think of the major losses you could suffer if a hacker gets into all your accounts.
  3. Delete all accounts that you have not been using for a long time.
Hackers love to get into email accounts that you don’t use anymore, since it takes a longer time for you to realize that you’ve been hacked  giving the hacker more time to do damage.
  4. Send an apology to all your email contacts.
While most internet users are aware that email hackers are the ones sending the spam, some may not understand and may be angry with you. So, it is best to send all your email contacts an explanation and an apology.

How can you prevent hackers from getting into your email account?

  1. Choose a password that cannot be easily guessed.
Many people use easy-to-guess passwords such as their own names with their birthdates at the end, which is very easy for hackers to crack. It’s best to combine upper case and lower case letters along with numbers and symbols such as the ampersand, dollar or percent sign.
  2. Change your password at regular intervals.
To make it more difficult for email hackers to crack your password, change your password every one to three months.
  3. Avoid giving your email address to every website that asks for it.
Give your email address only to people and organizations that you trust. Some websites exist only to sending out malware or spyware. Think twice before you provide your email address to websites that you browse.

The internet has certainly made life a lot more convenient but unfortunately, it’s also made it easier for hackers so you must be vigilant. Take all necessary precautions so that your email account is always secure.

I hate antivirus live

Antivirus Live brings annoying pop-ups, slows the system down and it may hijack web browser. It requires paying for keeping the program and unfortunately some people buy the thing because it looks like a security tool.

AntivirusLive

Pop-ups loaded by Anti virus Live imitate infection alerts; this way AntivirusLive tricks victims into taking the tool as a virus remover. This rogue program is also able to imitate system scan. Antivirus Live may block access to the internet and report all the websites as insecure; it of course offers buying Anti virus Live for “safe browsing”. Don’t waste your money on a scam and erase AntivirusLive without hesitation.

Fake antivirus

NSFW!

Fake AV

Pr0n!

Antivirus Live is a Rogue Antispyware software. New security tools appear online every day; can you tell if they are useful programs or fraudulent applications? Advertising techniques used by rogue programs might be even more convincing than advertisements of real security tools. How can you recognize a scam?

1. It is installed without your permission.

If a program is installed without your consent, it indicates either a computer parasite or bad attitude of the creators of the program. Regular software can’t magically appear on a machine without your permission. However, not every program is fraudulent and malicious if it is installed without user’s agreement. Software already installed on a computer may offer new additional tools and they may even install those new products automatically. These actions are usually defined in settings of the program and in the license agreement.

2. Its reputation online is terrible.

Doing a little research online is always worth the time spent. If the program is reputable, you will find reviews on at least several different websites. And if the program is not genuine, most of the results you find will advice how to delete the software. Unfortunately, some of the rogue programs are advertised on fraudulent websites in order to trick people into buying the fake security tools.

3. The official website is poorly built and lacks basic information.

Running a website doesn’t cost much and it’s not as difficult as it may seem to be. This is the reason why there are plenty of fraudulent web sources; however, creating a functional website takes much efforts and time and money. Scammers rarely bother to spend time and money for websites that get closed and banned in a week; this can help you to recognize a fraud.

If the official website of software is full of logic mistakes and spelling mistakes, it shouldn’t be trusted. Lack of contact details and basic information about a company is also a symptom of a phishy deal.

4. The payment website is suspicious.

There are plenty of websites dedicated to payment but the most majority of them are not reputable. If you decide to purchase a license of new software, make sure you know what kind of payment system is used. If you have never heard about certain payment system before, it’s better to back off. If you pay for something via fraudulent website, you lose the money, your online banking account and it may even lead to identity theft. If the payment system is reputable, you can trust the software too since reputable companies don’t cooperate with scammers.

If the payment page is secured, the address bar should be yellow on the most popular web browsers. There should also be a closed padlock icon next to the address of the website.

5. Performance of the program is poor.

If the program doesn’t do a thing, why should you pay for it? The majority of fake security applications slow down a computer considerably because they use lots of system resources but they don’t perform any actions. If the program is only capable of loading pop-ups it’s most likely not a security tool.

While Antivirus Live is running , you will be shown fake Windows Security Center, nag screens, warnings and fake security alerts from your Windows taskbar. The rogue will also change the proxy setting of Internet Explorer to redirect you to the Antivirus Live site.As you can see, Antivirus Live is a scam. Do not be fooled into buying the program. Instead of doing so, follow these removal instructions below in order to remove Antivirus Live and any associated malware from your computer for free.

Symptoms in a HijackThis Log

O4 – HKLM\..\Run: [ekwdvdwk] C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\username\gxymsysguard.exe

Office Paper Reduction Quick Tips

Below are quick tips for using less paper and saving money for your office. Why not try a few of these ideas and see how fast the savings add up for you?*

Policy Considerations

  • Adopt a "Double-Sided" Policy. Consider adopting an organizational policy that will ensure all individual documents are printed on both sides of the page. For an example, see the CIWMB In-House Waste Prevention Policy.
  • Minor Hand Written Corrections are OK. Consider adopting an in-house policy allowing internal documents to be submitted with minor legible handwritten corrections. This means it is okay to make neat handwritten corrections to fix typos and punctuation errors, add a word or delete one, on documents you give to your managers, so long as the document is for internal use. You can save time and paper by making a simple hand correction and by having several people review the same draft, rather than reprinting each successive draft.

Printing Improvements

  • Set Computer Defaults to Print Double-Sided. Set up computer software for default two-sided printing including word processing, spreadsheets, electronic mail, and others.
  • Preview Documents Before Printing. Proofread documents on screen before printing. Don't forget to use the speller/grammar function to detect errors.
  • Print Only the Pages You Need. You just got back that 20-page report you wrote and there are changes to make on pages 2, 3, 4, 7, and 15. After making the changes, do you print out the whole document? If yes, consider instead printing only the pages you need. Most software programs provide this option under the print function. Consult your information management staff or your software guidebook if you are unsure of how to print selected document pages.
  • Print Envelopes Without Labels. Save the cost of buying mailing labels and eliminate the waste associated with those labels by printing addresses directly on envelopes. Most printers can easily print directly on a variety of envelopes. Educate employees on this printer function and keep instructions posted. Printing addresses directly on envelopes also maintains the recyclability of those envelopes, unlike "sticky" labels, which are a paper recycling contaminant. (See Pressure-Sensitive Adhesives, a Sticky Recycling Problem for more information.)

Copying Tips

  • Practice Preventive Copier Maintenance. Keep copiers and printers in good repair and make it policy to only buy copiers and printers that make reliable double-sided copies. Let your copier maintenance person know when a copier is performing poorly (toner is low, jams frequently, etc.). Regular copier maintenance is important, especially if the toner is low. Many times copiers are used until all the toner is gone and that wears down machines. A copier that works well is less likely to jam and this helps save paper!
  • Fill Copier Trays Correctly. Yes, there is a right way to put paper into the copier. Before filling a copier paper tray, check the label on one end of the paper ream package. Look for an arrow pointing up and the words "copy this side first." Put the paper in the copier so that this side is facing up. This will reduce jams.  Note that when a paper ream does not have a label with arrows, you can perform a simple test to see which way the paper should be inserted. Hold the stack of paper at each end and note how it flops down. Turn the paper over and note again how it flops down. The side that has the greatest flop, or curve, faces upward in the paper tray.
  • Route Memos and Newsletters. Instead of making a copy for each person, route one copy around the office. Ask originators to send fewer copies to your office.

Creating Documents

  • Format Standard Forms for Paper Reduction. Reduce and double-side standard forms. When possible, automate standard forms as templates. Electronic forms are easier to use and eliminate the need for blank hard copy forms.
  • Shorten Documents. It costs about 5 cents to make an impression from your office photocopier. When you mail a document, it costs about 3.5 cents each page for first class mail. Paper costs about .6 cents per page. Shorter documents save money! Make your writing as clear and concise as possible.  Have someone else edit it. You can use smaller fonts or margins, but be careful not to compromise readability.
  • Use Revision Features in Word Processing Software. Take advantage of onscreen editing features when making changes to draft documents, then send the new draft electronically.

Reuse

  • Provide Trays to Collect and Reuse One-Sided Paper. Encourage employees to save and reuse paper printed on only one side at their desks. Collect paper that has been printed on one side for reuse in copiers and fax machines. Also, use the one-sided paper to make scratch pads. Making ¼-, ½-, or full-size scratch pads is simple and easy—just put single-sided paper face up and secure with a paper clip or binder clip at the top!
  • Provide Trays to Collect and Reuse Envelopes and File Folders. Encourage reuse of large envelopes and file folders by providing centrally located trays for their collection. Your office can buy mailing labels with the your return address and logo to place over old addresses on envelopes to facilitate their reuse. Always encourage employees to first reuse items such as large envelopes and file folders at their desk.

Reduce

  • Send Information Electronically. Use e-mail for forms, document transmittals and faxes. Think carefully before printing electronic information. Organize and save it so it is easy to look up. This way you won't need to make hard copy files of important information. Do make backups on floppy disks regularly!
  • Reduce Unwanted Mail. Contact mail senders to take your company's name off their mailing list or mark unwanted first class mail "Refused, Return to Sender." For more information, see Reducing Unsolicited Mail at Your Business.
  • Eliminate Excess Mailings. Trim mailing lists used to send information to your customers. Give customers opportunities to indicate if and how often they want to receive information. Your customers will appreciate your efforts to minimize unwanted or duplicated mailings.

Educate Employees on the Benefits of Paper Reduction

  • Let employees know that their paper reduction efforts not only save paper, but also postage costs (from reduced mail volume), and storage space requirements. All these savings add to a leaner, more efficient office that benefits everyone.
  • Promote a "Think Before You Copy" Attitude. Workers should be encouraged to make sure they really need the copies they are making and not to make excess copies.
  • Post Paper Reduction Reminders by Printers and Copiers. Remind people to copy double-sided by posting reminders near the copiers, using interesting posters or entertaining slogans ("2 sides are better than one," "make a 2 (copies) for 1 (page) offer," "get a second impression," etc.) and change them often to maintain interest. See the paper reduction campaign promotional materials available through the CIWMB.
  • Consider Formalizing your Efforts in a Paper Reduction Campaign. Make the campaign complete with slogans and a kick-off event. Include representatives from management and all levels of staff, decide priorities, develop measurable goals, and a timeline for implementation. See the CIWMB business waste reduction fact sheet Creating a Paper Reduction Campaign, Pub. #500-94-034, for more information.

5 Reasons to Implement a Managed IT Services Solution

Information Technology services are essential to the success of every organization, large or small. With increasingly competitive business environments, CEOs and small business owners are under great pressure to maintain a highly qualified staff and to make sure their technology is obtaining a better ROI than their competitors'.

These goals are not easily achieved, particularly for young or small businesses with less financial resources and time available. Having your own successful information technology department can eat up too much of the company's budget and time resources, and eventually cause a loss of its competitive edge. These disadvantages of maintaining an in-house IT department are why companies of all sizes have turned to using managed service providers to either assist their existing IT department or become their virtual IT department, handling all of the technology involved in keeping their businesses running at optimal levels.

The benefits of using a managed services solution are numerous, but the top 5 benefits of managed services for business include:

  1. Benefit from the expertise of a specialist, without having to spend time and financial resources training your staff to become experts.
  2. Decrease your technology risks. Your company doesn't have to worry about losing and trying to replace trained staff members, or about repairing, implementing or replacing complex technology solutions.
  3. Enjoy access to the most up-to-date, sophisticated technology solutions without having to invest in expensive equipment.
  4. Experience ultimate control over your business technology without having to manage an information technology department. This gives you the time you need to focus on what you do best: your business functions.
  5. Reduce stress and improve efficiency of your staff. When you make good use of managed service resources, your staff isn't tied up with IT concerns and they have more time to focus on tasks that are productive for the business.
